Advanced Plus

Level 6

The Advanced Plus course is our highest-level offering, dedicated entirely to conversation. This course engages students in in-depth discussions on various aspects of Italian culture, including current events, history, art, literature, cinema, music, food, traditions, travel, and iconic figures. A wide range of resources is used to stimulate conversation, such as newspaper articles, book excerpts, TV shows, films, radio broadcasts, and songs. Students also explore different linguistic registers—colloquial, formal, literary, and journalistic—while refining their speaking skills. Although grammar review is not the primary focus, it is available as needed based on students’ requests.

Course Description

The Advanced Plus course is designed for students who wish to engage in high-level conversations in Italian. Focusing entirely on verbal communication, it covers a wide range of topics, including current events, art, literature, cinema, history, food, music, and Italian traditions. Through authentic materials like book excerpts, newspaper articles, films, and songs, students immerse themselves in various cultural aspects of Italy. The course also emphasizes different linguistic registers—colloquial, formal, literary, and journalistic—allowing students to adapt their language to different contexts. Although grammar review is not the main focus, it can be incorporated based on students' needs, offering targeted support. This course is ideal for students seeking to refine their fluency and deepen their understanding of Italian culture, while engaging in stimulating discussions. By the end of the course, students will be able to navigate complex conversations with ease and confidence in both casual and professional settings.

Paola Marchegiani

Born in Pescara and raised in Bologna, this teacher holds a degree in Biological Science. After working in IT, they moved to Calgary, earned a Teaching Assistant Certificate, and rediscovered their passion for teaching Italian. They now teach at the Dante Alighieri Society of BC.
